Dear Riders

Last Sunday was the SA Derby in Johannesburg - the most prestigious jumping event of the year. 26 Horses competed, mainly imported horses from Europe, only two Namibian Warmbloods competed and both had clear rounds - from only three clear rounds. Davetsaub A New Era was the only horse with a clear round in the jump-off.

The Derby is 1000m long with 18 jumps (22 with combinations) the height 1.55 m in average, the wall 1.70m and a 3 m slide with a 1.5 m upright 2 strides away, a big international course. A New Era was ridden by Jade Hook a 19 year old girl competing for the first time in the 1.5 m class and riding for the first time in the Derby. When I had my accident in 1994 with Anuschka and I stopped riding and started breeding I called her first foal A NEW ERA,- a new milestone in my life -  so this win was very emotional for me.

From the breeding point of few 25 years ago in 1984 Billy Onduno won the Derby he was a DOLERIT. Davetsaub A New Era - Drosselklang / Anuschka (DOLERIT) and Midgard Glemmer - Saliner/ Gondel (Magnet / DOLERIT) so all these three horses got DOLERIT and Onduno blood in them.

This was a very good day for our Namibian Warmbloods!!

Best regards

Wolfgang

Something funny for all riders:

*A dressage test is a test of your skill against another competitor's luck.

Dressage is about achieving a harmonious working relationship with your horse, whose only idea of harmony is eating grass in a field.
*If you want to end a drought or dry spell, wear a new jacket and hat to an outdoor arena.
*Untalented, difficult, aggressive horses have robust health and long lives.
*Talented tractable horses are accident prone.
*You will ride the best test of your entire life just prior to being disqualified for not wearing your gloves.
*Horses do not improve their paces because you are wearing expensive German jodhpurs.
*If you chose a disco theme for your dressage to music test then the judge will not be less than 90 years of age.
*The less skilled the rider, the more likely they are to share their ideas and advice on riding a test.
*If you are considering the services of a horse clairvoyant to help you with training then you have reached the point of total desperation - try the German jodhpurs instead.
*If you fall off your horse in the arena you will have paid to have the test videoed.
*If you are feeling confident before a show then three of the German team and one leading eventer will turn up to give their young horses some "experience."
*Your horse will perform its best piaffe ever when you ask for extended canter.
*No one cheats at dressage because no one has worked out how to.
*It is surprisingly easy to end a test with a perfect square halt once you have scored a four for every other movement.
